We celebrate the extraordinary life of Alton Frank Caverly. Al was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother. He was an honorable and worthy man who cared deeply about his family, friends and country.
Al was born in Saginaw, Michigan on March 16th, 1944, to Kip and Elsie Caverly. He spent his youth attending schools, including Flint Community College, in Michigan. He was drafted into the Army 1968 and served during the turbulent times in Vietnam, until 1970. Al was exposed to Agent Orange which had a profound affect upon his health.
Al married his love and life partner, Mary, on April 10, 1965. They were blessed with two children, David and Sarah, born in Michigan. The family had a love for horses and the children participated in riding competitions.
Al worked for Consumers Energy in Michigan, retiring after forty years. He and Mary moved to Texas to share in the life of their grandson, Wyatt Caverly, born October , 2004. Al acquired a new name. “GeGe”, when Wyatt was a baby and it became a family tradition. Al had a great love for Wyatt and they became inseparable. Al was always happy to chauffeur back and forth to school, support school activities, teaching care for horses. Al loved the time he spent with his grandson.
Al had many friends and they each loved him. He was a generous and caring man and was always available to help anyone who needed him. His friendship was treasured by all.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary; son, David Caverly; daughter, Sarah Caverly; grandson, Wyatt Caverly; brother, Dana Caverly (Bonnie): niece, Cheryl “Lynnie” Allday ((Gerald); niece, Donna Farmer (Maurice): many nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Amber Caverly Adams, Chad Klakamp, and Gary Gleason.
In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations may be sent to the American Heart Association.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Waxahachie at the Nay Barn 1550 FM 1446 on June 10 from 5-9pm.
