Obituary for Arthur William Gibbins III

Arthur William Gibbins III (Bill) had a heart of gold yet died on an incredibly special date, way too early in life. He was the perfect match to his loving wife, Amanda, whom he irritatingly called Poodle. He had four children – Paige, Billy, Lexi and Cate all with equally annoying but so loving nicknames – Peege, Squirrel, Sausage Roll and the Bubbles.

Bill grew up a bit of everywhere but spent the majority of his life in the Woodlands TX where he attended J.L. McCullough High School. He was a pole vaulter and a football player but was most well known for being their fearless mascot, a Highlander – complete with Scottish regalia, riding a white horse, to lead out the football teams prior to games.

Bill had a love for Maypearl, TX where he came each summer to see his grandparents, Arthur (Art) William Gibbins and Patricia (Pat) Goodman Gibbins, to learn and help with the family’s farm. He loved the community here and was the first to volunteer to aid those in need or to help even during times of his own personal hardship. Bill is known for being bigger than life and he adored everyone especially children. He hugged strangers as he always said hugs released endorphins to the brain and made everyone happier. He smiled even when sad and loved bigger than big. He never met a stranger and he was known as “the Giba” to his personal friends and “White Lightening” to all the Maypearl kids because even to this day he raced them in foot raises just to build up their competitive spirit, energy and zest for life.

Bill was in the army and stationed in Germany for a brief time as a part of the military police. He loved serving his country and honored all those that did so as well. He was an active volunteer and spent almost a year of his life dedicated to Paws for Reflection Ranch in Midlothian, TX aiding vets and children who suffered from mental illness such as PTSD. We request in lieu of flowers that all donate to Paws because this is what Bill would have truly wanted.

Bill is survived by his mother and father, Arthur (Bill) William Gibbins Jr. and Karen Gibbins, his wife Amanda Gibbins, daughters Paige Cooke, Alexis (Lexi) Gibbins, Catherine (Cate) Widell and his son, Arthur William Gibbins IV (Billy), his two sisters – Susan Jubela (his twin) and Jennifer Nelson as well as their families. He also had a special bond and love for his nephews, Trey Gibbins and Tanner Nelson, which he treated as his own children as well as his niece Jordan Anderson whom he adored. He is met at the gates of heaven by his wonderful grandparents (Art and Pat Gibbins), his big sister who he treasured (Kari Gibbins) with open arms as his heart has been right with our heavenly father for so many many years thanks to the Oaks Church in Red Oak, TX and his dear trusted friends that served there.

There is no one like Bill and no small obituary can ever do the justice he deserves in telling his story. Bill had a zest for life because he had seen it flash before his eyes on many occasions and a complete passion for almost everything that quite frankly cannot be matched. He enjoyed so many things like skiing in Colorado, playing rounds of mini golf with his One in so very many states, spending time with his children and there wasn’t much Bill wasn’t able to accomplish especially when it involved a competitive spirit. He was always a winner and now an angel to an entire town and so many he has touched across this great Country especially in the small town of Maypearl, TX, his true home.

The family will have a small viewing but in the famous Bill Gibbin’s style, will have a celebration of life at, Our Dirt, what he so eloquently called our family home. The celebration will commence in the spring when covid19 has died down and our spirits need lifting. Stories can be told about this wonderful character of all characters and we will invite all to share the tall tales of Bill Gibbins. The date and time of such celebration of life will be announced via appropriate mediums so that you may celebrate the life of this very special man with his family.

The family requests your prayers and love during this tremendously hard time and for Bill we request that you hug someone in need one day and smile big and love bigger.

A special note to Bill from his wife:

Bill “My hard to love” angel, I will miss you forever and always, you are my heart and we know you will forever be watching over us in heaven as you did on earth. Thank you for the time we had with you and for giving it your all every single day as we will return that in 10 fold during our time on this wonderful planet and I will see you again in heaven, I will need one of your hugs immediately. I love you more and unfortunately you are not made of steel although in my heart of hearts you were always that strong and a protector to me.
Love always, Poodle “Your Sunshine Mixed with a Little Hurricane, Your One”

A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date.
