Obituary for Billie Louise Buchanan
On Tuesday, April 13, 2021, Billie Buchanan passed away at the age of 86. Billie was born on August 31, 1934 in Anson, Texas, to Sidney Jack and Ava Lee Dixon. She graduated from Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth, Texas and attended Harding University. She met Walter Buchanan and they married in 1956 in Searcy, Arkansas. Billie was a faithful wife, mother, and friend, and she spent her years in service to the Lord’s church. She stood by Walter’s side as he served as the pulpit minister in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and the past forty years in Waxahachie, Texas.
Billie taught the four-year-old bible class for over forty years and regularly spoke at Ladies’ Day Programs where Walter would be preaching in gospel meetings. She was active in the Bentonville PTA and other local organizations in each community where they lived. Billie especially enjoyed serving the elderly. She and Walter spent many holidays at the church building serving those who did not have a place to share a meal with family or friends.
Billie is preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather D.A. Lane, and her siblings, Bobby Jack Dixon and Shirley Dixon Wilbanks, and her grandson, Zachary Lane Osborn. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Walter Buchanan of Waxahachie, her children: Joe Buchanan of Waxahachie, Jill
(Stewart) Powers of Waxahachie, and Jan (Scott) Osborn of Dallas; a sister, Ava Jewel Hume, a brother, Sidney Ralph Dixon; grandchildren, Justin Lantz, Jerrod Lantz, Amanda Buchanan Sanchez, Haley Buchanan, Geoffrey Powers, Whitney Powers, Alexander Osborn and Nicholas Osborn; and six great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be 10am, Saturday April 17, 2021 at Brown Street Church of Christ in Waxahachie, TX with services following at 11am.
