Obituary for Billy Ray McCarty

Billy Ray “George” McCarty, 73, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, June 27, 2022. He was surrounded by his family and wife of 53 years. Bill was a faithful man who loved the Lord, his family, church, and community.
Bill was a Vietnam Veteran and longtime resident of Red Oak, Texas. He was born on December 27, 1948 to Alfred Ray McCarty and Mary Belle (Cochran) McCarty in Terrell, Texas. He attended Ferris High School where he met the love of his life Juanita Jordan on the school gym steps. They were married on July 16, 1969.

After graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force, he served his country faithfully from 1968-1972. He was a jet engine mechanic and was stationed in Vietnam and Guam as a Staff Sergeant. His best friend, Ricky Jackson served in the Marines and together they were stationed in DaNang. The discipline and patriotism Bill learned in the Air Force never left him. He continued throughout the rest of his life giving his time and talents to local VFW posts. After the military, Bill began his long career with UPS in 1975. He had 35 years of safe driving and retired in 2011.

As a kid, Bill learned to play guitar from his Father. Once he picked up a guitar, life was never the same. His first band was Sound vs. Silence. He went on to play in many country, rock-n-roll, and gospel bands. He played with The Fifth Regiment, Crimson Quartet, Merle and the Gospel Four, The Batey Family, Last Call, Restless Guns, and many Opry’s, but his favorite was to play in church. He was an extremely talented musician, singer, and song writer. He had his own studio where he spent many countless hours building his own tracks and writing songs. He leaves behind a legacy of music to his family and friends.

Bill had a larger-than-life kid personality, sense of humor and fun-loving spirit. He was an avid fisherman and would take many fishing trips with his son and brother to Matagorda Bay and Sabine. He enjoyed riding his Harley and being a part of many benefit rides. His favorite time of year was summer vacations with his family. He loved going camping at Fairfield Lake, The Villages, and Destin, Florida. He loved to parasail, layout on the beautiful Florida beach, and play with his grandkids in the ocean.

Bill is preceded in death by his son Clint McCarty, parents Alfred and Mary McCarty, sister Judy McCarty, niece Crystal McCarty, nephew Rickey Jordan, niece Lisa Jordan, brother-in-law James Jordan, and grandparents, aunts and uncles.
