Obituary for Buddy Leo Prothro Jr.

Leo “Buddy” Frank Prothro Jr. departed January 31, 2024. He was born January 11, 1950 to Laverne (Garcia) and Leo Frank Prothro Sr. in Natchitoches, La, where he was raised. Intelligent and skilled, he made his living as a CNC Machinist. A devoted husband, Buddy proposed to his beloved bride Becky after making a lucky strike at the bowling alley; the couple shared 43 love filled years together. A loving father, Buddy had six children – Stacey, Ryan, Michelle, Tyler, Travis, and Thomas.

Buddy was the consummate outdoorsman and Boy Scout. An accomplished archer, avid fisherman, and prepared camper, there was no other place he’d rather be than out in the wilderness. Regarded as Amarillo’s premiere goose whisperer, Buddy trained migratory geese to eat corn at a specific place, every year. When indoors, Buddy could often be found watching Murphy’s Law, any Jackie Chan movies, “The Curse of Oak Island, or paranormal shows.

Buddy modeled Christian principals in his daily life. He lived his life by example, and gave back to his community through his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America. Buddy lived and taught to always do what is right, no matter what, even if no one is looking.

He is preceded in death by his son Thomas Prothro.

Buddy is survived by his wife Rebecca Prothro; sons Tyler Prothro and Travis Prothro; and grandchildren Christian, Tommy Jr., Aubree, Nolan, and Allison.

Funeral service will be held Monday, February 5, 2024, at 10:30am at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel in Waxahachie, Texas.
