Obituary for Chaloner Otis Whitaker Jr.

Chaloner Otis “Chal” Whitaker Jr. passed away at home in Waxahachie the evening of March 9, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Already an uncle at the time of his birth, Chal was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on May 28, 1938 the ninth and last child of Chaloner and Minnie Langenbach Whitaker. After graduating in 1956 from Pittsfield High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, doing his basic training at Paris Island, SC and then serving overseas in Japan, Okinawa, and the Philippines. After returning home to Pittsfield and marrying Vicary Mitchell on July 24, 1959, they began their family. After 7 years the family began their peripatetic life moving to Lexington, KY; Roanoke, VA; Charlotte, NC; Atlanta, GA; Houston, TX; Danbury, CT; back to Atlanta and finally back to Texas in 1973, where they have made their home for the last 49 years.

Chal was a wonderful and loving husband, father, and Grampa; full of fun, adventure and mischief. He loved his ranch in Dawson, TX, traveling, hunting, fishing, gambling, going to the VFW and sitting on his patio watching the fire on his back patio fire pit, even if it was 90 degrees out.

He managed the United Parts Warehouse in Dallas and worked for Scotty’s Auto Parts in Fort Worth until he started Upex, his auto parts rebuilding business first in Oak Cliff and then in Deep Ellum. He retired in 2001 and spent many happy days at his Rockin W Ranch.

He was preceded in death by his parents,his brother, Roy and his sisters, Evelyn, Lillian, Madeline, Ruth, Barbara, Minnie, and Dorothy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vicary, of 62 years and their 6 children; Karen(Richard) Rozier of Midlothian, Donna Heaton of Wichita Falls, Chaloner “Rusty”(Susan) Whitaker of Red Oak, Kristi Evans of Midlothian, Vicary(Richard) Yetts of Red Oak, and Joshua Whitaker of Waxahachie. He is survived by 9 grandchildren; Daniel(Kelly) Rozier, Robert Cramer, Lee (Brie) Heaton, Mitchell Heaton, Leslie(Geoff) Moulton, Benjamin(Jena) Whitaker, Jennifer(Brandon) Rogers, Emily(Mitchell)Little, and Kaylee Yetts. He is survived by 11 great grandchildren; Jeb, Hannah and Caleb Rozier, Augustus and Amelia Cramer, June and Jett Heaton, Jordan and Ethan Moulton, Jemma Rogers, and Makenna Little. Also survived by his wonderful nephew, Ed “Chip” Chapman and his wife and son , Mary and Nick and his special sons, Deric Martin and Bobby Washington, many nieces and nephews, good friends, neighbors and in-laws.

No funeral service will be held. Visitation will be on Friday, March 18th at 2-4p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Boze Mitchell McKibbin funeral home at 511 W. Main Street in Waxahachie. Interment will be Monday, March 28th at DFW National Cemetery for family only.
