Obituary

Dale Helm, born Dec. 13 1932, came into this world as a small-town farm-boy from Holcomb City, KS - similar in fashion to that of Clark Kent, AKA Superman. Dale was often compared to "Superman" by those near and dear to his heart.

As a child, Dale flourished despite having to grow-up in the Great Depression, Dust Bowl era as well as WWll. At seventeen Dale enlisted with the army amidst the outbreak of the Korean War; however he found himself in the Air-force as an Air-Policeman patrolling the streets from Texas to Alaska before the age of twenty. After his discharge, Dale moved to Dallas with his newly married wife, Jan. Their brief marriage resulted in the birth of 5 energetically feisty children - 4 boys and one girl. After his separation from Jan, Dale took all 5 kids on a journey to find a happy home which he found in the love of his life, Jalayn. It seemed like Divine Intervention when Dale was introduced to Jalayn who had three teenage boys of her own, and together they took on the challenge of raising seven boys and one girl. Once all of the kids were out of the "nest" beginning their own journeys, Dale and Jalayn moved to Ovilla and soon became engulfed with the wondrous community of this small town. Dale and Jalayn put their various talents to good use in order to raise money for Ovilla's police and fire departments, as well as their beloved Shiloh Cumberland Church. Dale's woodworking skills along with Jalayn's love of painting made them prolific at producing intricate clocks and Folk-art, which became infamous among family and the community. Dale was asked to take stewardship of Shiloh's cemetery; which he turned into a beautiful resting place for the dearly departed. He also maintained an abandoned piece of land that is now the city park. He was relentless in donating his time and energy towards good causes as shown by his dedication to Carter Blood Care. This amazing man saved the life of many by donating over twenty-nine gallons of blood during his lifetime.
Dale Helm will forever be in our hearts and minds.

There will be an informal service and day of remembrance for Dale on Saturday, September 5th, at Noon (12:00-pm), in the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian chapel.

Dale and Jalayn were the finest humanity has to offer. The represented what true Christianity should be. I know that Heaven holds a place for them, free of sorrow and suffering.. Go rest high on that mountain.
