On March 28, 2021, Dennis “Mark” O’Barr joined our Heavenly Father and became a Guardian Angel to all he loved. Mark was born on July 8, 1968, at Ft. Richardson Army Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska to Judith Denman O’Barr and Dennis O’Barr. He cherished his childhood memories of days growing up in Guam, Georgia, and Benbrook, Texas.
In 1986, he graduated from Western Hills High School with many now life-long friends. It is here he met his soulmate, Montica. Mark joined the Navy in 1987 and in 1990 received an honorable medical discharge. He loved his work outdoors and took great pride in the many contributions he made helping build the infrastructure of the DFW metroplex he called home.
His favorite pastimes were working side by side with his Boo, Montica, and oldest daughter, Sara, building and remodeling the dream they called home. He took great pride in creating, solving seemingly unsolvable problems, and seeing beautiful pieces of art in chunks of wood. He was incredibly talented working with his hands and created many gifts for those he loved that will be treasured forever.
Mark was a humble man with a giant heart that shined when he was able to help a family member or friend. He had a strong hand but an even softer heart - he held no judgment and saw everyone as a deserving child of God – his stubbornness was infamous, and days were not complete without his humor. Mark’s greatest passion was his wife, children, and family – all of whom he loved dearly. He often said that his life felt full, and he could not ask for more than the gifts God had given him every day of his life.
Mourning Mark’s passing are his wife and soul mate, Montica Anne Minkner-O’Barr; daughters, Sara Ashli O’Barr, Alexis O’Barr Headland and husband, Brett, along with their children, Samuel and Lucas, Addyson Renai O’Barr and Sadi Grace O’Barr; mother, Judith Barr; sisters, Shelly O’Barr-Belota and her husband, Glen Belota, and Caren O’Barr-Pettyjohn; brothers-in-law Craig Minkner and Russell Minkner; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Joining him in heaven are his father, Dennis M. O’Barr, brother-in-law, David Ray Pettyjohn, and mother-in-law Dana Unruh. Mark was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend and will be profoundly missed. He is with his lord and savior, Jesus Christ, and he is finally free of all life’s burdens.
We will celebrate Mark with a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. on April 10, 2021, at Boze-Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home located at 511 W Main St, Waxahachie, TX 75165. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the Gary Sinise Foundation (garysinisefoundation.org/donate) or The Trees Remember (https://thetreesremember.com/memorial-trees).
