Obituary for Donna Elrod

Donna Marie Elrod was born October 2, 1951 to Wanda and Burl Blevins in Waxahachie, Texas. Donna is remembered as a fun, outgoing, loving person who could be stubborn at times. She told people just what she thought. She sometimes went by the name Johnny Don, as she thought she was as tough as any man.

As a child, she loved playing with her siblings and was best friends with her sisters. She grew up in Dallas and would often tell her friends that she was adopted because she was embarrassed of the size of her family. There were nine children. Once, after months of not speaking to one of her sisters over an argument, when they said their apologies, the sister told her that she couldn’t remember what the argument was about. Donna said “Well, I do. You want me to tell you?”. The family always thought that was funny.

Donna spent her adult life working in quality control, and as an auditor. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, working in the yard, playing cards, going dancing, and talking about others. She especially loved anything in the outdoors. Her favorite music was classic rock, and she looked forward to watching the Price is Right, and Wheel of Fortune. She served as President of the Resident Committee at Renaissance Rehab and Nursing Facility in Italy, Texas.

Most of all, Donna looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren. She is the mother to one son, Eric Vandever, and the grandmother of two grandchildren Anna Marie and Vincent.

Donna is preceded in death by her mother Wanda Rippey; father Burley Blevins; brother Hugh Blevins; and brother Burl Blevins.

She is survived by her son Eric Vandever and wife Whitney; grandchildren Anna Marie and Vincent Vandever of Frisco, Tx; sisters Connie Webb of Forney, Tx, Mary Hamilton of Terrell, Tx, Michael Rollins and husband David of Milford, Tx, Darlene McBride and husband Darrell of Italy, Tx; brothers Earl Blevins of Waxahachie, Tx, Carl Blevins of Italy, Tx; and many nieces and nephews, great and great great nieces, and nephews.

Memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 10:00AM at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home chapel in Waxahachie Texas.
