Obituary

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” ~ Psalm 116

Dorothy Ruth Riddle, age 89, went to be with Jesus on November 1, 2020, in Italy, Texas. She was born on December 27, 1930, in Cameron, Texas, to her parents, Louis T. and Stella (Walker) Latham. She was proud to be a spouse of a Korean War Veteran for 59 years. There was never a time that she could remember that she didn’t love the Lord. Her favorite saying was, “Jesus, Sweet Jesus.” Dorothy was the longest living member of the First Baptist Church in Italy, Texas. She was a devout member and enjoyed teaching children’s Sunday School for many years. Dorothy was well known for her amazing cakes and baking skills. She baked many of the birthday cakes that you might remember from your childhood. She was so beloved that she was featured on the Texas Country Reporter television show for her baking treasures. She loved gardening and working in both her flower and vegetable gardens, mostly because it gave her great joy to share with others. Over the years many friends still have her flowers in their yards. In addition, she was a skilled seamstress, quilt-maker, and embroiderer. She lived and raised her family in a wonderful historic home on a farm she named Stillmeadow. She loved all God’s creatures, especially her chickens, guines, cats, dogs, and cows. She had a special love for her grandchildren and enjoyed playing cards and dominoes. Her family will cherish all the special memories that they had with her.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky Milligan and husband Keith of Italy; grandchildren, Joshua Milligan and wife Andrea, Rachael Little and husband Thomas, and soon to be great-grandchild, Grayson Henry Little; two sisters, Marie Loar and Jean Buchanan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles “Chili” Riddle; daughter, Sherri Riddle; and brother, Louis Latham, Jr.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at First Baptist Church in Italy, Texas. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Brother Ronnie Dabney officiating. Interment will follow at the Italy Cemetery.
