Obituary for Elizabeth Sara Giambruno

Elizabeth Sara Giambruno was a remarkable woman. She lived an extraordinary life that was classified by her steadfast faith, unrelenting tenacity, and her ability to preserve through even the toughest situations. Elizabeth, or Betty as she was known by friends and Family, had an intense passion for Union Football, Ice Hockey, her grandchildren, horse racing and Fox News. Never one to shy away from voicing her opinions, Betty was always unabashedly outspoken and those who knew her loved her for it. Betty was a passionate reader and avid listener to audiobooks. As she aged, she became an ardent Hallmark Movie enthusiast. A small ray of light in the Alzheimer’s Disease that overtook her mind, was the fact that no matter how many times she’d seen the Hallmark Movie, it was like she was watching it for the first time!

Betty was born in Allentown Pennsylvania and raised there. She spent summers in Atlantic City, before meeting her future Husband, Sig, in the Airforce. Sig and Betty married and raised 5 children, Peter, Andy, Steve, Sue, and Marylee. They moved often throughout their lives, settling eventually in upstate New York, and Betty had the ability to connect with anyone she met, in any new place. Later in life, Betty and Sig became heavily involved with their 6 grandchildren, and were often seen at school events, sporting events, and church events supporting them. When their grandchildren moved out to Ohio, Sig and Betty left Saratoga Springs, and followed them out to Ohio. When Sig passed away in 2012 Betty remained unapologetically independent. In 2017 at the age of 90, Marylee invited Betty into her home and cared for her, using 35 years of nursing experience to help extend her quality of life. Even living in Marylee’s home, Betty remained unashamedly independent. Throughout her 90’s Betty still walked, talked, and was as animated as ever when watching her TV. Betty had the incredible opportunity to meet her Great Grandchild and became enamored with her. The joy that she would express when looking at the baby was infectious. Betty would spend hours watching the baby, playing with her, or just talking to her. Betty also had a canine companion who she would spoil with, at least half of each meal she had (that’s how you know she was a grandma no soul ever went hungry).

Betty is preceded in death by her oldest son Pete, and her husband Sig. She is survived by her son Andy (Melody Giambruno), son Steve, daughter Sue (Jim Drumgould), and daughter Marylee (Patrick Fuge). As well as her grandchildren ,Samantha (Tomas Romani), Brendan, Maria, Sophia, Rose, James, and her great granddaughter Isabella.

There will be a funeral mass for Betty on Friday December 23, 2022 at 2 pm CST at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waxahachie, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church Waxahachie, in Betty’s honor.
