Mary Evelyn Eason was born November 28, 1932 to Edward Lester and Eloise Francis Eason in Garrett, Texas. She was the eldest of 4 children. Before she was in grade school, her family moved from Garrett to a farm in Waxahachie, a town she resided in for the remainder of her life.
Evelyn graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1950 and married Oscar Stroope later that year. They eventually purchased a small plot off the family farm, built their first home and had three children, Charles, Barbara and Bill. Evelyn dedicated herself to raising their kids and became a proficient homemaker. An accomplished cook, the family enjoyed her meals, baking and candy making skills. Sunday dinners with extended family at the farm were an integral part of her life for many years. A long-time member of the United Methodist Church and its Covenant Class, Evelyn also attended the Waxahachie Bible Church in later years. She enjoyed bridge clubs and antiquing – frequently making the annual pilgrimage to the Round Top antique show with one of her sister-in-law’s.
In 1992, Evelyn married Roy Schultz and they were married for 31 years until she passed. A farm girl at heart, she had a green thumb and a special love of animals. She especially enjoyed working with plants in the potting shed that Roy built from lumber salvaged from the barn at the old family farm. With her children grown, Evelyn turned her attention to her four-legged kids. She leaves behind four inside kitties plus innumerable outside visitors.
She is preceded in death by her parents, nephew Edward Eason, III and great nephew John Kincaid.
