Obituary for Franklin Rollin "Johnny" Johnston

Franklin “Johnny” Johnston was born April 2, 1924 to Frank and Estella Johnston in St. Elmo, Illinois. He departed on January 11, 2022. Known to most as “Johnny”, he never met a stranger. He is remembered as selfless with a deep love of his family. Johnny married Allene (Noel) and had two children, Sandy Davidson and Rusty Johnston.

Johnny joined the Army Air Corp in 1943. He served during World War II as a pilot and retired in 1984 with the rank of Captain from the Army National Guard of Texas. He attended Norwich Military Academy and later became Captain of the 149th Armored Division in Waxahachie, Texas.

He was an insurance salesman and later obtained his real estate license, becoming a prominent local real estate developer. Johnny developed the Western BK, which is now Wells Fargo Bank, the North Gate Shopping Center, and the Waxahachie Funeral Home and Lakeview Cemetery. Fiercely patriotic, he organized the veteran section of the cemetery to honor all who served in the military.

He is preceded in death by his wife Allene Johnston; brothers Tommy Johnston and David Leon Johnston; sister-in-law Bonnie Johnston; and grandson Robby William Davidson.

Johnny is survived by his daughter Sandy Davidson and husband Robert; son Rusty Johnston; granddaughters Amanda Brady and Crystal Davidson; great granddaughters London Davidson and Jayden Shaw; great grandsons Raven Shaw and Robby Davidson Ward; great-great granddaughter Serenity Shaw; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the wonderful employees at Renaissance Nursing Facility in Italy, Texas for the amazing care they provided, with a special thanks to Rosanna Wooldridge for the picture memories she gave to the family.

A military memorial service for Johnny and his brother David Johnston will be held January 22, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Lakeview Cemetery in Waxahachie, Texas. Friends and family are invited to attend.
