Obituary for Fred Harrington
Fred Harrington, 81, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 9, 2023. Fred was born May 7, 1941, in Dallas, Texas to Marcus M. Harrington and Lillian Lorraine Hastings. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Olivia Burton Harrington, parents, in-laws Cecil O. Burton and Ruth Pierce Burton and brothers Wayne Lee Harrington and Dennis Harrington. Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Angela Kae Harrington Heck and her husband, Bob of Midlothian, Texas and Teenya Elizabeth Harrington Barnard and her husband, Alan of Rockport, Texas; grandchildren Rachel Hall and her husband, Cody; Daniel Barnard and his fiancé, Megan; Blaire Barnard, and children Doricee, Delyla, Delanie and Denalie Majors; sister Anna Kay Maples and her husband Don and brother Warren Harrington and Debbie. Not to be forgotten are numerous loving cousins, family and friends.
Fred attended Duncanville schools and graduated in 1959. During his high school years, he played football and baseball his sophomore and senior years. He was on the student council, annual staff, speech club, ran track & was the senior class favorite. Fred graduated from North Texas State University in 1964.
Fred was employed by LTV, IBM, Systems General, Fred Harrington Custom Homes, Commercial Real Estate, World Wide Keys, Waxahachie Daily Light, Mediation Service, Ellis County Indigent Health Care & Genealogist Consultant for a Judge in Waxahachie.
Fred was a member of First United Methodist Church of Duncanville at an early age and later moved his membership to First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie.
Fred volunteered for many organizations: Duncanville Football Booster, Duncanville School Board, City of Duncanville Planning and Zoning, Duncanville Historical Society, Dallas County Historical Commission & Historic Waxahachie, Inc.
Fred’s interests were picking dewberries, picking pecans, making pies, fishing, following football from high school level to NFL, following the Texas Rangers, playing solitaire, putting together puzzles, crosswords & Sudoku.
Fred traveled with Olivia, making many friends. They enjoyed writing emails, letters and sending pictures to their friends and family.
Fred will be missed by all that knew him. The family would like to thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Fred’s name to the First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie or a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023, from 4:00pm until 6:00p, at the Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel in Waxahachie, Texas.
Services will be held the same day, Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 5:00pm, also at the funeral home chapel.
