Obituary for Gary Wayne Basye

Gary Wayne Basye passed away peacefully on February 1, 2024. He began his life’s journey on January 24, 1953, born to Floy (Pyburn) and Gene Basye in Hillsboro, Texas. A lifelong resident of Hill County, Gary graduated Itasca High School where he was a member of FFA, specializing in Agriculture and studied welding. Gary was always adept with his hands and enjoyed working on things – so much that his father had to pull him from working under his car to attend graduation. As a young man he worked on his uncle’s farm and continued working in Agriculture for many years.

A loving father, Gary adored his daughter Jennifer. He could often be heard talking about his grandchildren, Layne and Konner. Gary’s greatest joy was his family.

An avid fisherman, if there was water - Gary would fish it! There was no place he’d rather be than at the lake catching fish and sharing good times with his many friends. Gary always took the time to share his passion with others and taught many friends how to filet a fish over the years. His loved ones will humorously remember his stubborn nature, and his willingness to help others.

He is preceded in death by his father Gene Basye; and younger brother John Basye.

Gary is survived by his mother Floy Basye; daughter Jennifer Ellison; grand children Layne and Konner Ellison; siblings Cathy Farquhar; Nell Erwin and husband Steve; Mike Basye; Kevin Basye and wife Lori; many nieces, nephews, and great friends.
