Obituary for Gloria DeLong

Gloria Yvonne Freeze DeLong passed away on January 12, 2022. She was born in Mountain View, Oklahoma on March 8, 1937 to Garland and Avis Freeze. Gloria was raised on a farm in Mountain View where she learned the value of hard work. After graduating from high school, she attended Mercy School of Nursing in Oklahoma City. She married the love of her life, Jerry DeLong, on February 22, 1957. They lived in Oklahoma and Kansas before moving to Lancaster, Texas in 1969 where they lived until 1991. They moved to Hide-Away-Lake in Lindale, Texas for 12 years before moving to Waxahachie, Texas in 2003 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Gloria was a beautiful soul who loved caring for others, making nursing the perfect profession for her. Over the span of her nursing career, she worked in labor and delivery, family medicine, pediatrics and as a school nurse. She had such a servant’s heart and that was evident in all she did to make a difference in the lives of her patients.

Gloria had many hobbies. She was a talented seamstress and a master quilter who shared her love of quilting by teaching others the craft she loved. Her work was meticulous and beautiful. Anything Gloria crafted was made with love and is a gift to treasure forever. Gloria also had a true talent for cooking and baking. Everything she prepared was delicious and baking for friends, family, and neighbors was another way of showing love to others. She had a heart of gold and went out of her way to do something nice for someone every day.

Gloria’s other hobbies included reading novels and her bible, listening to Johnny Mathis, completing puzzles, visiting with friends and family, and playing cards and dominoes. She loved going to the zoo and watching nature shows about wild animals. She dreamed about someday going on an African safari. Gloria loved the mountains and enjoyed escaping the Texas heat to spend summers in Ruidoso, New Mexico and Colorado. She loved attending church and church functions and was a member of First Baptist Church in Waxahachie.

Gloria was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who made the world a better place for all who knew her. Her children and precious grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to her life. Her grandchildren loved and adored their “GoGo” who always played games, completed puzzles, read books and baked cookies with them. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren until they are reunited someday in their forever home.

Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry; her parents; and her brother, Leon Freeze.

She is survived by children Peggy Davidson and husband, Terry, Jeffrey DeLong and wife, Leslie; grandchildren, Jeremy Davidson, Jake DeLong, and Nash DeLong; great granddaughter Kinsleigh Rae Davidson; bonus granddaughter Cassie Wagner; bonus great granddaughter, Addison Wagner; sisters Barbara Pritchard, Susan Crismon; brother Kenneth Freeze along with several nieces and nephews and extended family members.
