Obituary for Harriet Ellen Sparks (Bateman)

Harriet Ellen Sparks entered the Kingdom of Heaven on November 11, 2023. She was born April 28, 1949 in Southport, North Carolina to Sara (Creech) and Boyd Bateman. Harriet was a fun loving, active, mischievous child. In her later years, she was loving, sincere, always willing to help others, and never met a stranger.

Harriet enjoyed knitting, fishing, painting, and raising her cats. She could often be found enjoying a John Wayne movie. Her favorite place to be was working in her garden or visiting with family. Harriet was devoted to her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She was a very proud aunt to the Mayor of Palmer.

A spirit filled Christian, Harriet served as a prayer counselor for the 700 club under Pat Robertson. Known to those who loved her as Buzz or their favorite aunt. She spent her professional life as a seamstress then heading up the framing department at M J Designs. Her deep and abiding faith could be felt by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Sara and Boyd Bateman Sr.; nephews Scotty Lyn, Chris and Mike.

Harriet is survived by brothers Boyd Bateman Jr. and Chuck Bateman; sisters Dot Carey and Polly Webb; nieces and nephews Kathleen, Dennis, Boyd, Kenneth, Charlie and Shelly Ann.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 2:00pm at Maypearl Cemetery.
