Obituary for Harris "Happy" Jenkins
Harris “Happy” Jenkins united with his Lord and Savior on April 9, 2023. He was born on March 7, 1935 to Anna and Walter Jenkins, in Nash, Texas. Happy was a beloved fixture of the Waxahachie community, owning and operating Happy’s Home Furnishings for over 60 years, as a part of the downtown square. Upon graduation from Avalon High School, he attended Texas Christian University on a basketball scholarship. On June 1, 1957, he took Linda Cook as his bride; the couple share three children – Julie, Tessie, and Bryan – and 65 devoted years to each other. Happy was a hard-working man, who loved his family dearly, with a quick wit that did not escape all who have met him.
His childhood years were spent on the family farm, in Nash, where the work was hard, but life was simple. Fond memories of hot summer nights, with friends and family, listening to music while the kids took turns churning homemade ice cream were frequently shared. Happy enjoyed spending time at the golf course or hunting at the deer lease in Hamilton. He liked all kinds of music but especially old country, Vince Gill, Ray Charles, and Merle Haggard. Game Shows and daily viewings of Gunsmoke, the Rifleman, and Bonanza were sounds that filled his home. His absolute greatest joy was his family, his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Happy was a believer. A member of First Baptist Church of Blooming Grove, he gave his life to Christ at the age of 82.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Anna Jenkins; brother W.A. Jenkins; sister Peggy Jenkins Blair; and son-in-law Robert Lucke.
Happy is survived by his beloved wife Linda Jenkins; children Julie Galligan, Tessie Westbrook and husband Kelly, and Bryan Jenkins; grandchildren Kristen Rutenbar and husband Spencer, Katie Jaquez and husband Jorge, Steven Lucke, Ryan Galligan and wife Emmalee, Jake Jenkins and wife Kaitlin, Jacy Jenkins, Anna Jenkins and Nate Jenkins; and great grandchildren Kaylee, Carter, Claire, Luke, Justin, Grayson, Jameson and Jayden.
Services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 2:00pm with visitation one hour prior at 1:00pm, at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel in Waxahachie, Texas.
