Obituary

Jennifer Marie Burgess (Shealy), of Waxahachie, Texas, passed away February 17, 2020 surrounded by family.

Jennifer was born in Miami, Florida on January 24, 1979. She is a 1997 graduate of Desoto High School. Jen was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, Godmother and friend. She loved to have fun and was full of joy. Her laugh was loud and contagious. She was spontaneous. She loved animals, all of them. Over her life, she had friends in lizards, chickens, rabbits, and horses. She often gave abandoned dogs and cats a home. She loved walking barefoot. She loved her mom’s ice cream and chocolate sauce. She loved country music and singing loudly. But Jen’s greatest pride and treasure were found in her children, Bella and Brady.

She is survived by her two precious children, Isabella and Brady Burgess, her parents, Paul and Susan Shealy of Waxahachie, Tx, her sister, Laura Minor and husband Gary Minor of Flower Mound, Tx, and her brother Steven Shealy and wife Kathy Shealy of Mildred, Tx, as well as her nephews and nieces: Justin, Macee and Madison Shealy, and Emma, Nathan and Molly Minor. She will be greatly missed by her loving fiancé, Travis Catalena.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Oh my how my heart hurts!
I remember going to church with Jennifer and her family in DeSoto at the Baptist church! I remember going and spending time with her family. I’ve lost connection since then, but oh how my heart breaks for her babies! I’m so sorry for your loss! Praying that the Father envelopes each of you with His peace that passes all understanding!

My heart aches.

My memories go back to when she was a little girl. I was about to start school at Baylor when I heard she had fallen ill. I found a small stuffed Bear with a Baylor T-shirt on, holding a heart that said "Someone at Baylor loves you!" I gave it to her and I will never forget the sparkle in her eye as she stared down at that little bear. And it was true, I did love her. I love her whole family, but particularly her... her smile, her spirit, her laugh.. it filled the room. I take some comfort in knowing that she is in the arms of God and that we will see that smiling face again.

Life has put distance between me and the Shealy family since then, but I will always hold each of you dear. Thoughts and prayers to you all during this incredibly sad time. If Valerie or I can do anything for you, please don't hesitate to ask.

Love,
Gary Foster
