Obituary for Jerry Ward

Jerry Juan Ward passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday morning, December 26, 2022.

A longtime resident of Midlothian, Jerry was born on July 30, 1938 in Sadler, TX to Cleveland Ira and Donna Maxine Ward. After completing only the 6th grade, Jerry joined the workforce going to work in a factory in Sherman, TX. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years. Shortly after that Jerry began selling cars which is what he did for most of his career. That explains the penny loafers, the slacks and the sport jackets that Jerry would always wear. It was in 1961, while working for McDavid Pontiac in Ft. Worth, that he would meet Ms. Cleta. After dating a couple of years Jerry and Cleta were married in Houston, TX in January of 1964. Jerry and Cleta and their family would live in several places in Texas and in 1974 they moved from Desoto to Midlothian after Jerry went to work in maintenance at Chapparal Steel. Jerry was a former Freemason and served as the Master Mason in 2005. After retiring from car sales Jerry drove a school bus here in Midlothian for several years and even tried his hand at Auto Parts before completely retiring only a couple of years ago.

Jerry and Ms. Cleta have attended the Cowboy Church of Ellis County for about the last 20 years and joined the church in 2006. It didn’t take long after meeting Jerry that you would come to know that he loved the Lord. He will be deeply missed.

He was soft spoken and usually quite witty. He was a very kind and gentle man and he loved to tell stories. Jerry would often speak of his family and how much he loved them and was extremely proud of them all. He always had a new joke to tell.

He will be remembered mostly for how much he loved all of his children, grand-children and his great grandson. Only weeks before Jerry left us, he was so happy that he got to meet his great-grandson Hayden!

Another thing that was obvious about Jerry was that he wasn’t perfect, and he never would have claimed to be. But to all of us who loved him, he didn’t have to be. None of us are. And in this life, we never will be. But, through the blood of Jesus Christ and the salvation and glorification that His sacrifice provides, Jerry is perfect now.
