Obituary for Jimmie Lynn Sheffield

Jimmie “Jim” Lynn Sheffield, age 91, of Duncanville passed away Thursday, January 12th, 2023 at Buffalo Creek Assisted Living in Waxahachie. He was born on May 30th, 1931 in Guion, Arkansas to Lucy Amanda (Pierce) & Simmie Harris Sheffield. He proudly served in the United States Airforce from 1951 to 1955 stationed in the Philippians and Ohio, discharging at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Jim was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandpa and GREAT grandpa. He was married to his wife Evelyn “Jan” Janice (Enright) Sheffield on February 18th, 1956. Jim & Jan were to celebrate 67 years of marriage in February. They enjoyed a marriage of laughs, adventures, and most of all love. Jim owned and operated a construction company for many years with his father-in-law before going to work for AT&T in 1980. He retired from AT&T in 1996. Once retired he could be found tinkering in the garage, counting cows at the farm, fixing anything that needed fixing and most of all reading books. Grandpa was always reading one, two, or three books! He particularly enjoyed a good western or mystery but would read just about anything, passing this love of reading onto many in his family. He enjoyed a lifelong disdain of chocolate, passing this trait onto most all of great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lucy & Sim Sheffield, sister Rheadene Sheffield, son Kent Evans Sheffield, and mother & father-in-law Lola & Chester Enright. He is survived by his wife, Jan (Enright) Sheffield, son Lynn Harris Sheffield and his wife Jean, sister Willa Mae Sheffield, daughter-in-law Cynthia Sheffield, grand-daughter Nichole Sheffield Rose and her husband Les along with their children Abby & Will, Amanda Sheffield McDaniel and her husband Kevin along with their children Shawn, Shane, and Shad.

The family will be holding visitation on Thursday, January 19th, 2023 from 6PM to 8PM at the Boze-Mitchell- McKibbin Funeral Home, 511 W. Main Street in Waxahachie.

A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Grand Prairie on Friday, January 20th, 2023 at 10AM.
