Obituary for John Monreal

John Pete Monreal was born May 16, 1940 to Maria and Pedro Monreal in Ennis, Texas. He grew up in Ennis, and was devoted to his parents and siblings, developing a loyal nature early on. After school, John spent two years in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Korea as a translator. On September 14, 1968, John married his beloved Evelina. The two shared four children, five grandchildren, and 47 happy years together. John was a generous, loving, strong and faithful man of integrity.

John retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass after 32 years. He enjoyed volunteering through Owens Corning for a reading program that tutored students of Waxahachie ISD. He found this endeavor so fulfilling that upon retirement, John began his second career of substitute teaching. He continued to sub for over 20 years and up until the age of 80.

In his spare time, John loved gardening and tending to his chickens. His favorite place to be was in his backyard and at home with his family. He could often be found watching classic westerns. John was also a very faithful man, studying the word of God with intention and purpose.

He is preceded in death by his parents Pedro and Maria Monreal; siblings Rudy, Ruben, Benjamin and Leon Monreal; and his beloved wife Evelina Monreal.

John is survived by his children Veronica Monreal Schmich and husband Robert, Victor Monreal and wife Virginia, Maria D. Monreal and Marla Monreal; grandchildren Sophia, Isabella and Ava Schmich , Victor Andrès and Ariana Monreal; sisters, brothers and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held to celebrate John’s life on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 11:00AM at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel in Waxahachie Texas.
