Jonathan “Lee” Newell, age 70, passed away peacefully while holding his daughter’s hand on August 31, 2020. He was born in Dallas, Texas on April 10, 1950 to his parents, Edith Marye Atkins and John Lloyd Newell. He worked for South Western Bell for many years, making cable service repairs. Lee loved his Harley motorcycles, collecting and refurbishing antiques, dancing, singing, classic rock and classic country music but especially loved going to concerts with his daughter, Shada. He was a charmer to say the least. Lee would make friends with anyone, anywhere. Lee will be remembered as a dependable and loving man, who you could always count on. He will be forever missed and remembered by his family and loved ones.
Lee is survived by his sweetheart, Diana Holman; son, Justin Lee Newell; daughter, Shada LeeAnn Newell Gratton; grandson, Cade Adam Gratton; brother, Walter Newell and wife Patricia; sister Kaye Dorsett, brother-n-law, Edward Riley; his closest cousin and partner in crime, Laura Beth “LB” Atkins; his amazing nieces and nephews , and numerous loving family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his precious parents; beloved sister, Barbara Riley; wonderful brother, Larry Stafford; and his ex-wife, best friend, and Shada’s unforgettable Mama, Judy Newell.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home.
If you would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers, his daughter suggests either your favorite charity/organization, or, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, to help end childhood cancer and life-threatening illnesses.
