Obituary for Juan Zapata

Juan Zapata entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on April 14, 2023. He was born May 23, 1938 in Normanna, Texas to Dominga and Eugenio Zapata. Known to many as Wello, Juan was a valued long-time employee of the City of Ennis – working in the Parks and Recreation department for 24 years. He was a member of Templo De Poder for 46 years where he served as a deacon. Most of all, Juan was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He married his beloved wife Maria Mejorado Zapata and the couple share 64 years together, six children – Johny, Jesse, Lupe, Angelita, Daniel and David – 24 grandchildren, and 49 great grandchildren.

Juan’s patience, loving, hardworking, and humble nature leaves the legacy of a Godly man with a servant’s heart. He found joy in taking country cruises with no destination in mind. When asked where he was going, he would just answer “pa viejo”. The sounds of old westerns or the television show CSI filled his home. Juan looked forward to family gatherings and could often be found fishing, cooking, grilling, and gardening. He was a believer, finding comfort and guidance, in frequently reading his Bible.

He is preceded in death by his parents Eugenio and Dominga Zapata; sisters Felicia, Elogia, Maria, Martina, Josefina; grandchild Minerva; and great grandchildren Xavier and Gabriella.

Juan is survived by his beloved wife Maria Mejorado Zapata; children Johny and spouse Annette Zapata, Jesse and spouse Grizelda Zapata, Lupe and spouse Larry Diaz, Angelita Uresti, Daniel and spouse Becky Zapata, David and Annette Zapata; grandchildren Oliva, Demetrius, Johnny Jr, Lara, Jeremy, Jacob, Julian, Larry, Lorens, Molly, J.P., Joshua, Dimon, Jimmy, Aussie, Heven, Veronica, Cassie, Cathy, Frank, Priscilla, Mariah, Caitlyn, Andrea; and 49 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm with a service at 7:00pm, at the chapel of Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home in Ennis, Texas. Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 at 11:00am, also at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home chapel in Ennis, Texas.
