Obituary for Julia Barajas

Julia Ann Barajas entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on April 26, 2023. She was born September 7, 1959 to Maria Louisa and Manuel Barajas in Waxahachie, Texas. Known by her loved ones as Julie, Momma, and “NaNa”, Julia was a true, hometown Waxahachie native who thoroughly enjoyed her community. She devoted her life to raising her children and grandchildren, leaving a legacy of love and kindness that will be felt for generations. She lived everyday with a smile and did her very best at anything she put her mind to.

Julia spent her childhood joyfully helping her mother, learning how to cook, housekeeping, and raise children. She was well equipped as a homemaker, providing her family with love and tender care. Cooking was her passion! Her family will hold dear the memories of fresh made tortillas, perfect rice and beans, the very best breakfast burritos with eggs and papas! Saturday mornings consisted of cleaning chores with the reward of fresh hot breakfast. It was a well-known fact that if you did not wake up on time, you didn’t eat.

She was very proud of her five children – Mario, Judy, Tony, Martha, and Vanessa – and her 13 grandchildren. Juila’s favorite place to be was at home, with her family and pets. She enjoyed listening to Baraja De Oro, her son’s band and was their biggest fan. She never missed a chance to watch her favorite shows, One Life to Live and Little House on the Prairie and she spent countless hours knitting and working on word puzzle books or coloring. She could often be found attending music festivals and celebrations downtown.

She preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Maria Louisa Barajas; brothers Jimmy Barajas, Robert Torrez, Ralph Torrez, Rudy Torrez and Manuel Barajas II.

Julia is survived by her children Mario Barajas and wife Betty, Judy Cerda and husband Heber, Tony Casino and wife Erica, Martha Torres, Vanessa Perez and husband Everardo; sisters Nancy Barajas and Betty Barajas; brother Domingo Torrez; grandchildren Victoria Princess Barajas, Jonathan Joe Ramos, Jordan Mario Barajas, Elijah Cerda, Ethan Cerda, Valeria Cerda, Eliana Cerda, Valencia Casino, Tony “TJ” Casino, Evelyn Michelle Perez, Richard Everardo Perez, Jusiel Rudy Perez; numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved granddog Maxwell.

Joshua 1:9
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

I’M FREE

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free,
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
to laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found that place at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things I too, will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I’ve savored much,
Good friends, good times, A loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me.
God wanted me now, He set me free.
