Kathy Verca Werkmeister was reunited with her beloved, late husband Dennis, on April 23, 2023. She was born March 24, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri to Gladys and Charles Gabriel. Known to many as Kat, she combined her creativity and love of nature into a long time career as a florist. Kathy shared 45 years, and two children – Robert and Nicole – with her husband Dennis Werkmeister before his passing in 2020 from ALS.
Kathy grew up in St. Louis, graduating from Southwest High School. She was an avid lover of animals and nature, often finding her joy in fishing on a river, camping and gardening. Her artistic talents did not stop at floral design as she was quite skilled at cross stitch. She loved horses and especially looked forward to spending time at the pool. Kathy was always ready to watch an 80s movie; romantic or science fiction - Lady Hawks, Robin Hood – Prince of Thieves, and Dances with Wolves were her favorites.
A devoted wife and mother, Kathy cherished her family. Her children and granddaughter Charlie were her greatest source of comfort. The Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays were always a time to gather and enjoy the family she loved so fiercely.
Kathy was also a believer. Though she grew up Methodist and Baptist, she converted to Catholicism when she wed Dennis.
She is preceded in death by her husband Dennis Joseph Werkmeister; parents Gladys and Charles Gabriel; and her sister, Debbie.
Kathy is survived by her son Robert Joseph Werkmeister and husband Bradley Scott Johnson; daughter Nicole Emily Werkmeister; granddaughter Charlie Blair Werkmeister; and sisters Donna Marler and Carol Myhren.
