Obituary for Landon Tate Burdette

Landon Tate Burdette joined his Lord and Savior on January 11, 2023. He was born on August 13, 1997 in Clifton, Texas, to Sally Barnett and David Burdette. At the time of his passing, Landon was living in Rota, Spain, where he was stationed while proudly serving his country in the United States Navy as a surgical technologist.

Landon had a keen, sharp mind that was developed at a young age. He could often be found building things - be it a racetrack of cardboard or helping his Paw Paw hand crafting wooden pens. Landon attended McKinney Boyd High School, graduating in 2015, as a member of the National Honor Society. He then went on to attend Harding University, where he was on the Dean’s List, before deciding to enlist in the Navy. He was also fiercely competitive, mostly with himself. Landon ran his first 5K at five years old and excelled! He frequently won his age group. Landon continued to run, earning a Varsity position in both Cross Country and Track during his freshman year of High School. He completed four half marathons with the personal best time of 1:17:20!

He embraced new experiences. Landon never met a stranger; he could walk into a room knowing no one – and leave knowing everyone. While in Spain, he found his love for the beach and of surfing. Landon traveled to many places while living abroad, often in an old Volkswagen van, that could accommodate his numerous surf boards. He once said that this van really taught him to slow down in life, and appreciate the beauty around him.

Landon also had a strong abiding faith in God. He was baptized and confirmed at First United Methodist of Richardson, and later joined the Church of Christ. He strove to always grow in his faith, which helped him overcome trials and hardships.

He is preceded in death by his grandmother Ann Elizabeth Parker Barnett; grandfather Randal Loyd Barnett; great grandmother Geraldine Ramsey; and great grandfather Bob Barnett.

Landon is survived by his mother, Sally Barnett; father and stepmother, David and Meg Burdette; siblings, Hunter Barnett and Erin Fiorentino; grandparents, Gregg and Eva Burdette; uncles, Scott Barnett, Clay Barnett and Tory, Daniel Burdette and Catherine; aunts, Alyssa Barnett, Erin Johnson and Jeff, Sarah Lindsey and Andy; cousins, Megan Dewoody, Dylan Barnett, Haley Barnett, Christopher Jones, Scarlet Barnett, Brantley Barnett, Annabella Johnson, Truett Johnson and Luke Lindsey.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at First Baptist Church in Waxahachie, Texas. Services will follow the visitation at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery with full military honors.
