Obituary for Larry Mathis

Larry Dwayne Mathis was born July 31, 1946 in Waxahachie, Texas to Ernestine and Ebin Mathis. He joined his Lord and Saviour on September 2, 2022. Larry attended Paul’s Beauty College and earned his living as a Hairdresser. He was a long-time member of Ferris Heights Methodist Church.

Larry is remembered as very stubborn, and always ready to help friends, family and church. He came from a very close-knit family, where all holidays were spent at his mother’s. They especially enjoyed sitting around the kitchen table playing dominos, where their mother most always won. Summers were especially fun, spending time at the pool and cooking out. One of three siblings, there is was nothing that could not be done with their powers combined.

In his spare time, Larry enjoyed planting flowers in the yard; he was especially good with artificial flower arrangements. His favorite colors were lavender and red. He loved most all music and the movies Titanic and The Green Mile. He looked forward to going out to eat once a month with his friends Brad, Jimmy and Gary.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ebin and Ernestine Mathis; two sisters Pearl Choate and Serena Chote; special nieces Kelly Aguilar and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his sister Sharon Lynch; nephews Jacob Aguilar, Andy Aguilar and wife Michelle; as well as many great and great-great nephews and nieces, many cousins, second and third.

Memorial Services will be held September 17, 2022 at 4:00pm at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel in Waxahachie.
