Obituary for Renea Porter

Renea Porter went peacefully to her heavenly home, surrounded by family, on March 21, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. Renea was born to Judy and James Poteet on November 2, 1961 in Waco, Texas.
Renea graduated from Mesquite High School in 1979. She was very athletic and a competitor. Renea ran track and played volleyball. Even after high school, Renea played volleyball in a recreational league. She was a part of the Ladies church softball team when they won state.

Renea was very dedicated and a hard worker. She worked at the Cedar Hill Police Department where she began in 1994 as a PSO at the front desk, first female jailer, and then later promoted to the Property/Evidence Room Coordinator, until her death.

Her dedication was also revealed in her marriage of 40 years to Joe Ben Porter. Their strong and loving marriage paved the way for their children and many others.

She was the definition of strength, determination, and grace, living each day with a love of life. Renea enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, sitting on the porch talking with family and friends. She worked with “Camp Wednesday” where she cooked meals for children every Wednesday night at the Maypearl Church of Christ.

Renea made a huge impact on so many during her lifetime. Her love and laughter were contagious to all that knew her. Renea’s quick wit was beyond belief and it kept those around her constantly laughing. Renea enjoyed spending time with her “girlfriends.” (Joe had to ask which group because she had several close groups of girlfriends).

Renea is survived by her husband Joe Ben Porter; her daughter Lindsey Porter and Justin Tyler, grandchildren LD and Lola Dudley; her son Brian Porter and fiancé Mary Catherine McClinton; mother, Judy Nicholson and husband Jack; brother, Reed Poteet and wife Deedra; sister in law and husband, Brenda and Mark Bryan; brother in law Richard Porter; Uncle David and Aunt JoAnn Jumper and many nieces and nephews as well as many cousins

Preceded in death by grandparents, DT and Prentice Jumper, Frank and Eula Poteet; father, James Poteet; father and mother in law, Benny Joe and Nancy Porter; brother Brian Poteet; a baby boy grandson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Texas Oncology Foundation. www.texasoncologyfoundation.org
