Obituary for Linda Ruiz (Gonzalez)

Linda Gonzalez Ruiz was born on October 14, 1949, in Seymour, Texas, to Benito and Petra Gonzalez.

Linda was the middle child. She was blessed to have a big brother (Benito Gonzalez Jr.), and a baby sister (Angie Cavazos).

If we could describe her in a few words, they would be loving, generous, honest, sincere, caring, compassionate, wise, yes sometimes a little stubborn, a woman of faith, and a woman of prayer. She loved her family and friends deeply and had no problem taking off the shirt from her own back to help a family member or friend in need.

She graduated in 1968 with her high school diploma from Abilene High in Abilene, Texas, and continued her studies at LABI in Ysleta, Texas, graduating in 1971 as Salutatorian of her class, and receiving a diploma in Biblical Studies. She graduated from Southwestern Assemblies of God College in 1974 and received her bachelor’s degree in Christian Education. A few years later, she attended Abilene Christian University, where she received her teaching certificate. She was a Spanish teacher for 14 years in 3 different schools, which include: Lincoln Middle School in Abilene, TX, and Red Oak High School and Midlothian High School in DFW.

She married Daniel Ruiz on June 26, 1976. Next month, they would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. They had one son on November 23, 1979, and named him Tad Daniel Ruiz. Every time they asked her why she only had one child, she’d always say that Tad was perfect, so they didn’t have to keep trying for more kids.

Linda was a part of a trio during her LABI years.

She was also a church pianist for 44 years.

She enjoyed reading books, watching old classic movies, listening to 60’s and 70’s music and hymns, playing the piano, painting, coloring, playing dominoes and board games, spending time with family, friends, and former classmates from bible school.

Her favorite color was black, and her favorite flower was tulips.

She was the best gift giver.

Linda also loved the finer things in life, so even though she didn’t like to travel, you could find her and Dan at any given day at Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Panera Bread, shopping at the mall, or receiving Amazon and QVC packages in the mail. She loved name brand clothing, shoes, and purses.

Her two greatest joys in life were her grandsons, Jayson and Josiah. She lived for them, and didn’t hold back from spoiling them, and always making sure they had all that they wanted and needed.

Linda will be missed because she was special to all of us, but we know she is in the place that she most loved reading about – heaven. So, this is not a goodbye, just an “I will see you soon.”

She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Margarita Valdez, her mother, Petra Gonzalez, and her two nephews, Jeremy Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Ruiz, her son and daughter in law, Tad and Lizette Ruiz, her two precious grandsons, Jayson and Josiah Ruiz, her father, Benito Gonzalez, her brother, Benito Gonzalez Jr., her sister, Angie Cavazos and husband Moses, and her 6 loving nephews and their families.
