Obituary for Luis Reyes Lopez Jr.

Luis Reyes Lopez, Jr. was born on March 17, 1935 and entered into eternal paradise on December 25, 2020 at the age of 85. Mr. Lopez was born in Pharr, Texas to Corina Benavidez and Luis Lopez, Sr. He was a resident of Red Oak for 43 years and a devoted member of First Baptist Red Oak for 30 years. He served in the Air Force from 1953-1957. He was stationed in Newfoundland AFB during the Korean War. Luis married the love of his life, Maria Torres on July 23, 1962 and together they raised 3 daughters.

Luis was one of the kindest men you could meet. He opened his heart and his home to everyone. He never met a stranger. His friends called him “Louie”, his nieces, and nephews called him “Uncle Pepe” and his grandchildren called him “papa”. He loved his family, church, friends, Dallas Cowboys, Texas rangers and scratch-offs. He was a man who loved life and had a passion for serving at church, especially during VBS. Luis will be remembered by his smile, warm hugs, joke telling, but most of all his loving heart.

Luis is survived by his beautiful wife of 58 years, Maria Lopez; son, Larry Lopez; stepson, Carlos Gonzales; daughter, Nadine Knebel; grandchildren, Roland Linan (Gabrielle), Brittany Largin, Laura Vela (Eli), Jackie Pavlicek (Robert), Amber Diaz (Carlos), Joey and Joshua Gonzales, and Isabella and Skylar Knebel; 5 great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Madelyn, Landon, Charlie and Axl Reign and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliveros and Elvira Salinas; sisters, Corina Benavidez, and Maria Del Angel; daughters, Nidia Largin, and Nilda Lopez; stepsons, Robert and Jerry Gonzales and grandson, William Knebel.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 3-5 PM, Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie, Texas.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12 PM, Monday, January 4, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Red Oak, Texas. Interment will follow at Red Oak Cemetery.
