Obituary for Margaret "Peggy" Carley

Margaret (Peggy) Carley was born March 27, 1921 to Chester and Emma Lawson in Marlton, New Jersey. She passed away May 17, 2021 in Waxahachie, Texas. Peggy married A. Boyd Carley II on February 18, 1944. Peggy served her country during WWII by joining the W.A.V.E.S. She met her husband in Washington D.C. during that time. Soon after their marriage, Boyd was deployed overseas. After the war, they moved to Oklahoma where her husband had been raised. After a time, they moved to Hurst, Texas to settle. While in Hurst, Peggy and her husband were charter members of St. Paul United Methodist Church. While at St. Paul, Peggy served as President of the Women’s Society of Christian Service, a Sunday School teacher, and a member of various committees. She was a “stay at home” mother who loved taking care of her children and household. She also enjoyed being in bridge clubs and spending time with friends. After her husband retired, they moved to Lake ‘O the Pines, Texas where they made many new friends. They joined Mims United Methodist Church and served in many areas of the church. They also enjoyed activities such as: bridge, square dancing, gardening, golf, and volunteering with the local volunteer rural fire department. During this time, Peggy’s husband also served many local small United Methodist Churches in the area as a lay pastor. She always accompanied him as he served in the churches and visited church members. In 1992, Peggy and Boyd moved to Waxahachie, Texas to be closer to their children. They joined First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie where Peggy served as President and secretary of the Fidelis Class and was a member of the JOY singers who sang at area rest homes. While in Waxahachie, they enjoyed their grandchildren and children’s activities. Peggy also quickly joined various bridge clubs and was a member of the YMCA Hi Steppers for 15 years.

Peggy and Boyd had four children. A son, Addison Boyd Carley III, and three daughters, Susan Carley Scruggs and husband Bob, Jan Carley Crook, and Margo Carley Lewis and husband David. They had 8 Grandchildren, Kelly Scruggs Hale and husband Tom, Mike Scruggs, Richmond Carley and wife Shawna, Jennifer Carley Desi and husband Rick, Elizabeth Carley, Jamie Lewis Brewer and husband Erick, John Lewis, and Mary Crook. She has also been blessed with 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Boyd Carley II, her son, Addison B. Carley III, a granddaughter, infant daughter of David and Margo Lewis, and a great-granddaughter, Shannon Faye Scruggs.

The family would like the express their gratitude to Bristol Hospice, especially Josh, Janiece, and Jerry Bloomfield, and Legend Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Home for the love and care they gave their mother.
