Obituary for Mary E. Cherry (Poe)

Mary Ellen Poe Cherry was born August 17, 1930 in Arkansas to Jessie Maxey and Maurice Poe. She departed this life July 10, 2020 at age 89. Mary loved to fish, bird watch, her cat Prissy and being outside in nature. She loved and lived her faith and was a member of Ovilla United Methodist Church where she enjoyed Bible study and singing in the choir. She was also a member of Ellis County Christian Women’s group. Mary retired from Bell Helicopter after 35 years of service as an administrative assistant.

Mary is survived by her nieces and nephews, Dianne Clark, Rocky Stone, Jr. and Darci, Cathey Tarleton and Dwight, Chuck Bridges and Karen and Mike Bridges and Melissa, numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Wynell Cockrill and Betty Conger; brother-in-law, Larry Cherry and Gerry; aunt, Kitty Cherry Simpson, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and sister-by-choice Patsy Cavender.

She was preceded in death by her favorite fishing partner and beloved husband James Lloyd Cherry in 1996 and by her sisters and brothers-in-law Alene Stone and Henry and Ruth Bridges and Bill, and niece, Beth Bridges.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Ovilla United Methodist Church youth.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 15, 2020, 6:00-8:00 PM at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home located at 511 West Main Street in Waxahachie, Texas and a short viewing period Thursday, July 16, 2020 starting at 9:00 AM prior to the service.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 10:00 AM also at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home with Joel Robbins providing the Celebration of Life. Interment will follow at Sardis Cemetery.
