Matthew David Zahrndt, 46, of Waxahachie, Texas, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at his home. David was born on June 12, 1974 in Belleville, Illinois, the son of Richard Zahrndt and Dianne McDowell Zahrndt. He grew up in Hodgenville, KY, and graduated from high school in 1992.
David was a professional music educator that began his career at the University of Louisville where he earned a degree in music education and marched with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps. He later achieved a Masters in Trombone Performance from the University of North Texas and a Masters of Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.
David was the Director of Fine Arts at Grapevine-Colleyville ISD with previous positions at Desoto ISD, Red Oak ISD, and Carrollton Farmer’s Branch ISD in the field of music education. His passion was music and the arts in all forms. He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as working with music and fine arts educators across the state of Texas.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Cristi Watts; children Julie Elizabeth and Andrew Thomas Zahrndt; parents Richard and Dianne Zahrndt; brothers Michael (Suzanne) and Jason (Robin) Zahrndt; grandfather Harold Zahrndt; aunt Barbara Garvey; nieces Lauren, Kairi and Amelia; nephews John and Cooper.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Eva Zahrndt and Richard & Aletha McDowell.

A private family service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home with Michael Elrod officiating.
