Mildred Onita Gentry-Letkiewicz passed away Saturday, July 2nd at the age of 85, surrounded by her loved ones.

Mildred was a resident of Italy, TX for 55 years, and her life was led with an abundance of fun. Mildred was the former co-owner of the Italy Press with her late husband, William “Bill” Gentry. She retired from the Army / Air Force Exchange (AAFES) in the 1990’s. Mildred married John Letkiewicz in 2010.

On any Thursday night, you would find Mildred, and her husband John, waltzing across Texas on the dance floor at various senior dances. She was a member of Italy Church of Christ for over 40 years, and was a devoted follower of Christ. She had a gigantic heart for animals, having had many special furry friends over her lifetime. She realized that one of the secrets of life is always making time for a Braum’s ice cream cone. She was also a lover of unsweetened iced tea, frogs, games of chicken foot, Mexican food, and solitaire.

Mildred’s joy of her life was her family. She was a mother to three boys, a grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Her life revolved around being their loudest cheerleader and friend.

She is survived by her husband John Letkiewicz, sons Danny Gentry and Jerry Chambers and their wives (Ginger Gentry and Dodie Chambers), her grandchildren (Amy Cate, Michael Chambers, Kelli Ballard, Chrissy Rosemond, Brad Chambers, and Hannah Valadez), many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and her beloved cat “Patch”.

She is preceded in death by her late husband William “Bill” Gentry, son Donald Chambers, sister Carolyn and brother Clifford Dobbs, and her parents Elbert and Era Dobbs.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, July 9th, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Chapel at 800 South Ward Street in Italy, Texas.
