Obituary for Royden Eugene McPherson

Royden Eugene “Hippie” McPherson, 71, passed away on February 20, 2021 in Waxahachie, Texas. Roy graduated from Waxahachie High School in the class of 1967. In life, Roy was a lover of music. He led Ad-Lib as the frontman in the 80’s and even participated in “Waxa-Jam.” Along with the group, Roy also dug into learning to play the saxophone and the harmonica, which he did avidly. He loved all music, but his most requested song was “Nyquil Junkie.” Roy found great joy in being a Blood and Plasma donor. With the help of Carter Blood Care, he was able to donate 54 gallons of these fluids, contributing to the blood bank used to save the lives of those who need it. Roy had his late Dad’s 1991 Oldsmobile 98 that he kept in tip-top shape, even going so far as to refurbish it. Roy was also a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and a notorious prankster. Roy worked at Kerr Glass in the 70’s and 80’s and retired from Wal-Mart after 15 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edith Lillian May Zook, and Orville Fern McPherson, and his sister Sharon Eulalie Barrow.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Stacy Martin and her mother Jane Holt; niece, Mysti Martin; grandchildren, Ethyn Martin and wife Allison, Courtlyn Martin, Silas Boehler; great-grandchildren, Vance Maliff and Lillian Grace Martin, who is on the way; siblings, Glen McPherson and wife Charlene, Davene Tanksley and husband Eddie, Dale McPherson and wife Alba, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Chapel in Waxahachie with Pastor Bruce Zimmerman officiating. A celebration of life will immediately follow at Waxahachie Bible Church. Instruments are encouraged as he always said he wanted it to be a time of remembrance and joy, not of sadness.
