Obituary for Sandra "Sandie" Artzt Gambulos

Sandra “Sandie” Artzt Gambulos was a dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Sandie passed peacefully on October 13, 2022 at the age of 75. She grew up in Highland Park, Texas attending Armstrong Elementary School and Highland Park High School. Her father moved the family to Fort Smith, Arkansas where she attended middle school before returning to Dallas and graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School.

After graduation she roomed with girlfriends and worked for Sanger Harris Department Store. She would then work at a locally owned restaurant. Unbeknownst her time at the Oyster House changed her life, for that opportunity brought about a lengthy courtship resulting in her marriage to Charles Gambulos in 1971 at Highland Park Methodist Church. The couple was happily married for over 50 years. Returning to Highland Park the couple settled into the Gambulos family home and welcomed a son, Charles in 1977.

Sandie enjoyed spending time with her family, visits to the Gulf Coast, knitting, playing with her grandson, and her small group at church. She was a lifelong member of HPUMC, even after the couple moved to Waxahachie, Texas where she was living at the time of her passing. She was also active in several small groups at the First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie including Women of Faith and Agape.

She made a significant impact as a 50+ member of the Texas Region Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America. Sandie served in multiple capacities within the organization, most notably as a Bug Tussle Cheerleader with her best friend Ann Dilts Reznicek. Sandie made every single Trek in 53 years, often serving as hospitality host with her husband Charlie. She could be easily spotted by her head to toe lady bug attire and cheerleader bullhorn.

Later in life, the couple moved to Waxahachie, Texas where she was living at the time of her passing. The family would like to especially thank Ann Diltz Reznicek and Todd and Elena Moore for their ever-present support and friendship. Whether it was her bout with breast cancer or recent pneumonia hospitalizations, the family is so grateful for their time, fellowship, and support.

A graveside service is scheduled for 11 AM on October 17, 2022 at Rosehill Cemetery in Tyler, TX.

She is survived by her husband Charles “Charlie” Rineholt Gambulos, son Charlie and wife Nichole Gambulos II, and grandson Charles III, her loving sister Susan Artzt Eastberg and many cousins, in-laws, nephews and nieces.
