Obituary for Shirley Hicks

Shirley A. Hicks, of Ferris, TX passed away on Monday, February 27, 2022. She was born on July 16, 1941, to parents Walter and Mae Daugherty in California but moved to Frederick Oklahoma at the age of 5. Shirley was a very loving, Christian, and sincere lady that could also be quite stubborn at times. She loved spending time with her family and sitting down for a holiday meal with them. Her hobbies were sewing and reading. John Wayne movies were both her favorites to watch as well as her favorite to collect. She had almost all of them. She also loved listening to the gospel group The Cathedrals.

Shirley was a waitress for 20 years even served as the manager of the fabric & craft department for 9 years at Walmart in Altus, Oklahoma. When living in Altus, OK, she sang in the Church Choir and enjoyed teaching the 4-6 years olds Bible stories on Flannel Boards. After she moved to Texas in 2000, she was a hospice volunteer where she sat with patients until her health declined. After this she volunteered at the library in Ferris, TX to teach reading to adults.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter Sara Blasingame and boyfriend Tracy Wheeler, son Rickie Roberts, daughter Donna Low and husband Richard, grandson James Low, granddaughters Crissy Carlson, Kabra Hope, Krystal Blasingame, Kimberley Blasingame, Kandace Blasingame, and Katrina Blasingame along with 12 great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Mae Daugherty, brother Jack Daugherty and sister-in-law Glenda, husband Albert Hicks, and daughter-in-law Linda Roberts.

A graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 2 P.M. at Frederick Memorial Cemetery in Frederick, Oklahoma.
