Sybil Dell Forrest Andrews, a loving mother and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2020, at her home in Waxahachie, TX, in the presence of her three sons.
Born on Jan. 29, 1944, in Longview, TX, Dell graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1962. She earned a BA from Southern Methodist University, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She taught at Shackleford and Marvin Elementary Schools in Waxahachie for more than 25 years, retiring in 2005 after impacting the lives of hundreds of students.
Dell was a sweet, gentle woman who touched everyone she met with her kindness. She was an avid reader, participating in multiple book clubs. In addition to being a teacher, Dell was also a lifelong student of history especially that of the state of Texas. She was always quick to speak up for those who lacked a voice, and she gave generously to charity. She was known for her love of cats; she cared for countless felines throughout her lifetime. But her greatest passion was her family.
Dell is preceded in death by her parents, William Bird Forrest, Jr. and Sybil McNair Forrest; sister, Bette Forrest Reaser; and brother-in-law, Donald F. Reaser.
She is survived by her son, Bill Borders and his wife Christie of Aurora, IL; son, John F. Andrews of Poughkeepsie, NY; son, Jeff Andrews of Brooklyn, NY; granddaughters, Mackenzie Borders of Austin, TX, and Paige Borders of Iowa City, IA; nephew, David Forrest Anderson of Richmond, TX; numerous cousins in the Forrest and McNair families; and, of course, her two precious cats, Sadie and Tummer.
Visitation will be at noon on Thursday, June 4, 2020, at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie, with memorial services following at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Dell asked that memorials be made to: Sims Library in Waxahachie, Ellis County Museum, Habitat for Humanity in Ellis County, Rainbow Room Ellis County, Historic Waxahachie, Inc., or Waxahachie Care.
