Obituary for Sylvia Gracie Wood

Sylvia Gracie Wood entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. She was born on December 31, 1955, in Sinton, Texas to Aurora and Juan Villarreal. After graduating from Ennis High School in 1974, she continued her education at Navarro College where she received her associate degree and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. A caring wife, Sylvia shared 18 loving years with the love of her life Mark Wood. Together they enjoyed each other’s company, and she had 6 wonderful children.

Sylvia loved to laugh, and her lively energy always lit up the room. She was a selfless, giving woman who took pride in the way she carried herself. Eternally optimistic, she made an effort to find the good in everything.
Sylvia’s love ran deep for her family, she took every opportunity to brag about her children and grandchildren. A nurturing woman, Sylvia looked after her grandchildren and was often found at Joey’s with them or wherever she felt she was needed most. Her favorite past times were shopping and spending time with her loved ones. She enjoyed watching westerns, Star Trek, action movies and Vin Diesel films. Sylvia was a free spirit who enjoyed dancing - the sound of Brick House would bring her to her feet, along with Tejano music and her favorite artists, Tom Jones, Stevie Nicks, and Prince. Sylvia loved Mexican food and delighted in eating her sister Jinny’s homemade tamales.

Her children will fondly remember their road trips, equipped with Dr. Pepper, Red Hots, and circus peanuts. If their mother was dancing that meant puckering her lips and leaving the house meant looking your best.

She is preceded in death by her husband Mark Wood; Mother Aurora Quintero; two sisters Diane Martinez, Virginia Rodriguez; two brothers Andres Villarreal, Robe Villarreal; and grandson Seth Herrera.

Syliva is survived by her children Katina Garcia, Krystal Sanchez, Kimberly Sanchez, Luis Sanchez III, Joey Sanchez, John Sanchez; daughter-in-law Whitney Sanchez; grandchildren Steven Herrera, Kriss Herrera, Unique Herrera, Elida Rhodes, Gavi Saucedo, Joey Sanchez Jr., Eva Sanchez, Royce Sanchez, Annalyn Sanchez, Mireya Ramirez; sisters Norine Sanchez, Jacquie Snelders, Doris Villarreal; brother Jason Villarreal and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
