Tammy Lynn McCann, 53, of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away March 26, 2023, in her home after a decades-long struggle with lupus. She was born in Ennis, Texas, to Garry and Linda Green on September 28, 1969.
She married Rick Brown on January 31, 1986, and together they had two children, Lacy and Jared, during their six-year marriage. She went on to marry Thomas McCann and was dedicated to him until his death in October of 2018.
At sixteen, Tammy was baptized into Christ and continued to love and serve the Lord as a Christian throughout her life.
Tammy was a devoted mother. She loved children and spent most of her time committed to their welfare. She was an excellent nurse, seamstress, chef, party-planner, housekeeper (obsessively so), coach, and counselor, all in the name of motherhood, and later, as a grandmother.
She was a woman who did all she could, not just in word, but in practice, to show her love and compassion for those around her, young and old. Her compassion didn’t just extend to her own children and grandchildren. She briefly acted as a foster parent, took on numerous babysitting positions, served as an assistant in a nursing home, and opened her home to multiple family members who wanted to stay.
Not only did Tammy love to care for others, but she also never ignored an animal in need. Growing up barrel racing horses, Tammy was no stranger to animal care. During her life, she rescued raccoons, nursed injured birds, adopted stray dogs, and even saved a few baby skunks. She tended pet pigs, goats, horses, and rabbits, and worked for many years as a dog groomer and veterinary assistant.
Sadly, Tammy was diagnosed with systemic lupus in the early 2000s. After suffering through years of chronic pain, inflammation, and infection, her body gave up the fight, leaving behind a family who will miss her greatly.
She is survived by her daughter, Lacy (Brown) Harding and husband Richard; her son, Jared Brown; and her three grandchildren, Katie, Raylan, and Titus Harding. She is also leaving behind her mother, Linda Davenport; her father and stepmother, Garry and Debbie Green; sisters, Laura Brogdon and husband Randy, Brandy Green Jones, Toni Pargas, Jennifer Presley, and Jamie Walton and husband Jon; brother, Anthony Fontenot; her grandmother, Ludean Green; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas McCann, and her stepfather, Ival Leroy Mattucks.
Per Tammy’s request, no memorial services will be held, but all who knew her will deeply mourn her loss.
“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.” I Thess. 4:13-14
