Obituary for Thomas James Bailey

Thomas James Bailey was born August 5, 1943 to Annie and William Bailey in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed on December 1, 2022 at his home surrounded by the love of his family. Thomas was a loving, compassionate, thoughtful man who never missed an opportunity to show his thankfulness and gratitude.

After high school, Thomas joined the Army where he spent time in the Tank Division. Later made his living in the transportation industry as a truck driver. He met his beloved wife Shirley in 1980 and the two married in 1990. They welcomed two sons, Bill and Zach. He was a supportive husband, father, and grandfather who shared an abundance of wisdom.

Thomas was also a really cool guy. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors fishing and riding his Harley. This love could be seen in his artistic abilities; he painted landscapes, drawing inspiration while being on the lake or camping in the woods. Thomas also had a sporting nature and loved watching all sports, most notably football, golf and baseball. He could often be found pitching horseshoes or shooting pool at his favorite local bar. Later in life he really enjoyed hanging out at home. A piano player, music was treasured. He enjoyed classic rock from the Beatles, Eagles, John Denver and Cream – he loved Jack Bruce. Most of all, he looked forward to listening to Walt, his brother, play and sing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Annie Bailey and William Bailey Sr and brothers William Bailey Jr and Walt Bailey.

Thomas is survived by his wife Shirley Bailey, children Bill Bailey and wife Blacey, Zach Bailey; brother Sam Bailey; Tommy Bailey, Julie Bailey and Lisa Bailey; sister in law Shirley Bailey; brother and sister in law Joe and Marsha Zimmerman, nephew Nathan Zimmerman; nieces Jen Ang, Jackie Ray, Shirley Girard, Sarah-Debbie Ulrich, Cathy Doetsch; grandson Graham Bailey and his grand and great grandchildren in Maryland; and many fugawee friends.
