Obituary for Thompson R. "Tom" Foy

Thompson Ray Foy, Sr was born July 28, 1946 to Iris Arlene and Leo Foy in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He departed on December 15, 2022. Known as Tom or Tommy, he grew up in Verona, North Carolina. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in Wilmington with a degree in business. North Carolina was somewhere he always looked forward to returning. He worked for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service from 1968 through 2001, where he retired as Senior Vice President of Logistics. Thompson married Dorothea Sue Oldaker on March 15, 1968 and spent his life with her until it’s end. They shared three children, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild – expecting 1 great grandchild in March 2023 – and 54 love filled years together.

Thompson was a caring, selfless man who always put his family first. He had a curious mind and was quite intelligent. He was both hardworking and fun loving. In his spare time Thompson enjoyed playing golf, cooking and coaching. He loved being with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Leo Thompson Foy and Iris Arlene Padgett.

Thompson is survived by his beloved wife Dorothea Sue; sons Thompson Ray, Jr and wife Kimberly of Cranfill’s Gap, Texas and David Paul and wife Karen of Waxahachie, Texas; daughter Deanna Sue Foy Waco, Texas; nine grandchildren, one great granddaughter, one expected great grandchild; and his sister Donna Lynn Foy-McKinney and husband Charles of Verona, North Carolina.

Thompson's memorial service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church,Saturday,January 7, 2023 at 2:00. A farewell reception will be held at the Foy home following the memorial.
