Obituary for Verdell "Nanny" Lord

Verdell “Nanny” Lord, age 90, of Waxahachie, passed away early Thursday morning, January 6, 2022 with her family by her side. She was born April 27, 1931 in Donie, Texas (Freestone County). Nanny grew up on a farm in Donie, where she loved being outdoors. In her earlier years, she enjoyed canning the vegetables raised in her garden. She was very proud of the 4H ribbon she won for her vegetable garden.

Mom loved her siblings and enjoyed spending time with them. Verdell received her GED as an adult and was a licensed dietician, and a Medication Aide at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home. She spent most of her time in the nursing profession taking care of others. Nanny was well known for her home daycare where she helped “raise half of Waxahachie”. Nanny enjoyed saltwater and freshwater fishing. Her favorite place, besides home, was Sargent Texas fishing with her husband, Tommy Lord Jr. Verdell, like her mother Carmie Lee, were big fans of the Dallas Cowboys. Nanny was an excellent seamstress, making many of Brenda’s clothes.

She enjoyed listening to Hank Williams, Kitty Wells and Dolly Parton. She also enjoyed John Wayne movies, Gunsmoke, and going to Saturday night wrestling at the Dallas Sportatorium. Verdell was of the Baptist faith. She was active in her Sunday School class at Farley Street Baptist Church. She was also an active member of Grace Fellowship.

Verdell loved her family and spending time at home with them. Nanny loved the holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. She enjoyed receiving presents at Christmas, but her favorite part was cooking for her family. Mom is well known for her chicken and dressing. She loved spending time in her yard with beautiful flowers.

Verdell was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Tommy Lord, Jr. who she had been married to for over 31 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Andrew (AD) and Carmie Lee (Miller) Richardson and step-father Jesse Miller; two sons, Randy Earl Moseley, and Tommy Glenn Lord.

Verdell is survived by her daughter, Brenda Lord Farmer, and husband Darrell; son, Donnie Edward Lord, and wife Benita; daughter, Amanda Gail Huff; brothers, A. D. “Sonny” Richardson and Danny Richardson and wife Jane; sisters, Gloria Murphy and husband Don and Carolyn Dunn, 12 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be between 10 am - 12 noon on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home with graveside services immediately following at the Lakeview Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Bristol Hospice and her caregivers throughout the years.
