Christy Yvonne Godwin, 45, went home to be with her personal Lord and Savior at her home on November 14, 2020. She was born in Longview, Texas, on March 15, 1975 to her parents, Dallas (Crawford) and Edgar Gresham. In February of 1995, Christy started her career at the age of 19, when she joined the U.S. Army. During her career she worked as a special agent for US Army Criminal Investigations command, her roles specialized in child forensic interviews, hostage negotiator and executive protection. She retired after 22 years as Chief Warrant Officer Two.

Christy was deployed many times throughout her career. During her first deployment to Korea she met her best friend and soulmate, Scott Godwin. It was love at first site for both, when she asked him to dance. On June 26, 1999, the two were married in Ft. Hood, Texas. On August 1, 2006, they welcomed their one and only daughter, Taylor Dallas.

Christy and her family found their church home at The Cowboy Church of Ellis County. She was a woman who had a servants heart, who volunteered for many organizations. She was the president of the Red Oak FFA, served on the Ellis County Expo fair committee, and a councilwoman for the City of Oak Leaf.

After 20 years of moving for the military, she was so happy finally putting roots down in Ellis County. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Scott Godwin; daughter, Taylor Dallas Godwin; parents, Ed and Dallas Gresham; brother, Stephen Gresham and wife Erica; mother-n-law, Nancy Godwin; sisters-in-laws, Kelly Jackson and Kimberly Nolte; nephews, Cole Jackson and Vince Nolte; and nieces, Stevie Rae Gresham and Kennedy Baker.

A celebration of life will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at The Cowboy Church of Ellis County. Christy would expect all attending to be Fort Worth fancy.

Arrangements are under the direction of Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home, 511 West Main Street, Waxahachie, Texas.

I served with Scott and Christy in the US Army with CID. Christy was one of the nicest people you could ever meet, a great Soldier and even better Special Agent. Always first on her mind were Scott and Taylor. She was great mother and wife to them both. Although the Lord and Heaven have received a perfect Angel; here on earth she will be greatly missed.

Miss you so much already! Our hearts ache knowing that you are no longer here with us. We continue to pray for our family- Scott, Taylor, Aunt Dallas and Uncle Edgar during this difficult time. May His love, mercy, and comfort aid you through each day. There are no words to take away the pain and missing her, so share the memories, the laughs, and the tears together, talk about her, and never ever left go of what she meant to you. You know what she would want you to do, so live for her and smile knowing she is still with you in her own way. We love you all so very much.
